FAQ
  Frequently Asked Questions

Q.    Which versions of RuppLynx are currently being supported?

A.    Rupp Technology is supporting version 5.x and 6.x of RuppLynx, and version 1.0 of RuppLynx Express.

Q.    Which infrared devices are supported by RuppLynx?

A.    The Actisys IR-200L and IR-3S+, the Isota IR96 and IRCE, the Sharp CE-IR2, CE-IR4 and CE-IR 5 are supported by RuppLynx. Aegis infrared devices, and most built-in laptop infrared ports are not supported by RuppLynx.

Q.    When I try connecting my organizer to my laptop by Infrared port, it doesn’t find the organizer. Why?

A.    Infrared ports (IR) on laptops transmit and receive information in a language known as IRDA standard (Infrared Digital Association) format. Sharp organizers use a language called ASK format, or Sharp format, to transfer information by IR. RuppLynx only transfers information in ASK format for IR use.

Q.    If you have a laptop that has ASK infrared mode available, like an IBM Thinkpad or a Sharp laptop, can you then use that laptop to connect my organizer to RuppLynx?

A.    Yes. The ASK mode built into the IBM Thinkpad and Sharp laptops is compatible with the use of RuppLynx versions 3.1, 4.0, 5.x and 6.x. We do not guarantee support for the use of these devices, however.

Q.    If I have information in an earlier version of RuppLynx, can I move that data to a new version of RuppLynx?

A.    Yes. RuppLynx 2.5, 3.1, 4.0 and 5.x all support the SDF, CSV, and DBF formats. If you export your information into one of those formats, you can then import that information to the newer RuppLynx program. There is also an Import Data option available if transferring from and to the exact same model organizer. The data files from your previous version of RuppLynx are simply copied into the new one exactly as they are.

Q.    I went to look for my information after doing a backup, and it wasn’t there. Yet, I saw it transferring the information. Why can’t I see it?

A.    Backups are archive files. They store all of your data, but you can not view or edit the data when it’s in an archive. The only way to view the backup data is to restore it back to the organizer. To view your data in RuppLynx, you must do a Transfer. The Transfer option is on the same screen as your backup/restore option. It is specifically located between the two boxes that list your Telephone/Contact, Schedule/Appointments, To Do, and all other organizer applications.

Q.    On my YO series organizer, I see the message Secret On Mode. What does that mean, and why can’t I transfer when I see it?

A.    The reason you can not transfer is that a password has been put on the organizer. It means that it will not transfer information without unlocking the organizer first.

Q.    When I transfer my OZ-8000 series data to the PC, it transfers the Outline but it doesn’t let me view or edit it. Why?

A.    The programming information necessary to create a viewer for the Outline application was not provided to Rupp Technology.

Q.    Does RuppLynx support printing mailing labels from the contact information?

A.    Yes. RuppLynx versions 2.5, 5.x, and 6.0 all have the ability to print mailing labels.

Q.    My spouse and I both have the same organizers, but we want to keep separate databases. Do we need to install another copy of RuppLynx?

A.    No. RuppLynx has a function called Data Sets, which allows you to set up multiple sets of data so you can keep each organizer database separate from each other.

Q.    On my Zaurus, I have Spreadsheet data that I want to bring up to my PC. When I do a transfer, there’s no option listed for Spreadsheet. How do I view them on my PC?

A.    You must have an Excel compatible spreadsheet program on your PC to view your Zaurus spreadsheets. Use the PC Files option from the Transfer window or menu to transfer spreadsheets from your Zaurus to your PC.

Q.    I have an older Sharp Organizer model and have transferred the data to RuppLynx. How do I move the data to a new Sharp Organizer model?

A.    To move data between two different series of Sharp Organizers, you must use the Organizer Data Migration feature found in RuppLynx Deluxe.

Q.    I have been using RuppLynx to transfer data from my Sharp Organizer to the PC. I now want to move the data to a new Palm or Windows CE device. Can RuppLynx do this?

A.    RuppLynx is only compatible with Sharp Electronic Organizers, so you cannot transfer directly from RuppLynx to one of these devices. However, you can export your Sharp Organizer data to MS Outlook. Most Palm or Windows CE devices have links to Outlook, so you should be able to use the software associated with your new PDA. Another option would be to export the data to CSV files and then import the CSV files into the software for your new device.
